One of my new years’ intentions is to not spend money unnecessarily. It’s going pretty well. I’ve decided experiences are more important than things, and with my eye on the prize [travel], I’m having an easy time of staying out of my favorite shops. To that end, I’ve even unsubscribed from my many store newsletters.
I’m realizing that I can get by with fewer things, but still am having a difficult time trimming down my wardrobe to a capsule. Why? I have no idea. I wear the same things frequently, and I no longer go into an office daily. When I do go, as a freelance consultant, I have a little more leeway with my clothes and can get away with a casual vibe.
All that said, a few things have caught my eye lately, but I’m happy to say, they’ve stayed out of my virtual shopping cart! Here they are:
Everlane Marled Wood Sweater: Just about everything Everlane makes is so on point! This easy breezy sweater would be a great addition to any wardrobe. The black marled texture will go with anything and can easily be dressed up or down. It appears to be slightly fitted, which would add a nice slimming silhouette, but it has a cute high-low hem that isn’t too drastic, so those of us that are a little older don’t look like we’re trying so hard.
Comme des Garcons Play Stripe Shirt: Ok, it’s a little pricey for a stripe shirt, but this is a classic. And with buying less, we’re buying better. Better quality. Timeless style is here to stay, and this shirt will always be in style. They also make a beautiful white button down that I’ve been coveting from afar.
Asos Lola Caged Flat: I make up for the pricey stripe shirt with the lower priced flats. They aren’t leather, so be forewarned, but they are adorable. And, I have this thing about caged garments – they exude a very understated sensuality. That might be a subject for another post. (we’re all adults)
